A complete reconfiguration of a maisonette flat at the top of a Victorian villa near Newington Green, Islington.
The original flat had three small bedrooms on the top floor and two small living rooms on the lower floor, with a kitchen separated by a flight of stairs and the bathroom squeezed between the living rooms and therefore on a different floor from the bedrooms.
Our proposed design is to flip the accommodation around so that the top floor becomes an open plan kitchen / living space and the lower floor becomes two good sized bedrooms plus a single room / study. In doing this, the bathroom is relocated closer to the bedrooms and the kitchen and living spaces are one and the same, resulting a space for modern living.
The plan form is being highly rationalised with a series of structural shelving units replacing load bearing walls without the need for big steel beams and party wall agreements. These structural shelves are to be formed from beach plywood with wall panels of the same material creating a warm and modern space.
We were appointed to provide full architectural services from concept and ideas studies to developing detailed design for tender and construction. The project is currently on site and due for completion in spring 2018.
