A complete reconfiguration of a maisonette flat at the top of a Victorian villa near Newington Green, Islington.
The original flat had a confused and impractical arrangement of rooms, with the bedrooms remote from the bathroom and the living spaces awkward in shape and detached from the kitchen. Our proposal radically reorganises the accommodation, flipping the arrangement so that the top floor becomes an open plan kitchen / living space and the lower floor becomes two good sized bedrooms plus a single room / study, with the bathroom on located off of the half landing between main floors. A modern and flexible living space is the result
Each room and circulation space has been highly designed to maximise use of space and create interest and delight in every element. A feature of the design is a series of structural shelving units that replace load bearing walls without the need for major structural works and party wall agreements. These structural shelves are formed from beach plywood with wall panels of the same material creating a warm and modern space.
We were appointed to provide full architectural services from concept and ideas studies to developing detailed design for tender and construction. The project was completed in late 2018.
